Review of Inanna international Iraqi dance festival
Inanna International Iraqi Dance Festival – Where Tradition Meets Innovation!

We would like to welcome you to join us in this unique event! Our Festival will take you beyond cultural boundaries to where tradition meets innovation! East meets West, ancient knowledge meets modern fusion. Freedom in dance and being a unique artist arises from discipline, hard work, and passion.

The roots of Iraqi dance lie in Mesopotamia (in Greek meaning ‘the land between the two rivers’), where the ritual dances were essential in Inanna and Ishtar temples. It is almost 5000 years old and some dance styles like Raqs El Kawliya have been keeping this ritual tradition and sacred spirit until today. We will take you on a dance journey to learn Banat Al Rief dance style; get to know the pioneer Kawliya dancers, learn the Khashaba dance, Basrawi dance, Choobi, Khaleeji dance.

We prepared and built a festival program for you that will provide opportunities to gain more understanding, solid training, and knowledge about Iraqi authentic dance, its culture and its different dance styles. Our program opens the door for Iraqi dance in a fusion style where new aesthetics and influence of Western creativity are highlighted to lead you to a new experience in dance and expression. Egyptian dance, Moroccan dance, Khaleeji dance and other folkloric Arabic dance styles are part of our festival concept this year.

Assala Ibrahim is the founder/director of Inanna International Iraqi dance festival. Together with her excellent team she created a very unique dance project and they managed to turn it into a success story.

It would be our great pleasure to welcome you to our second edition of our festival in Odessa/Chernomorsk (Ukraine) which will take place on 10 – 13 October 2019.

After an incredibly successful festival in Estonia last year, our festival team would like to settle this year in Odessa/Chernomorsk. Inanna festival concept is to travel around the world and to work with international dance event organizers and teachers. Yana Tsehotskaya (Ukraine) & Dimitra Sakellaraki(Greece) will be hosting and organizing our 2nd edition Inanna dance festival this year in Odessa..
Odessa offers our festival very beautiful environment, our hotel is very close to the sea and the building look like a place from 1001 night, all festival activities will be in one place. Most importantly, this place will enable us to offer our festival participants attractive prices and it will enable us to continue supporting our charity project for the Iraqi Romani Kawliya Children school in Iraq.

The festival is open to all dance levels and our concept for the participants is that we grow in all WS to achieve master class level.

During the 4 days of the festival (10,11,12,13 october 2019) you will have the possibility to:

  • Attend workshops with international master teachers who will be teaching Iraqi dance, Moroccan, algerian dance, Khaleeji, Choobi and Dabkeh!
  • Attend lectures on Iraqi Dance History!
  • Enjoy amazing shows with International Guest Performers!
Dance to live Iraqi music with our incredible musicians (in workshops and charity gala and shows)
  • Our live band also has an excellent repertoire on Khaleeji, Moroccan and Egyptian music
  • Participate in Inanna competitions (there is a category of performing with live band and we ‘ll give financial gifts for Inanna Crown Winners)!

Don’t miss out the opportunity to be certified with a Diploma in Iraqi Dance in different levels by the founder/director of Inanna International Iraqi Dance Festival Assala Ibrahim and our international master dance teachers.
